What do @ and + mean?
The people with a ..@.. beside their names are the ..channel operators. ..They enforce the rules, help to answer questions, and make the channel run smoothly. Ops stay busy so they have helpers (people with the ..+.. beside their names). The ..@.. and ..+.. status are awarded by the ops and asking for them will only get you kicked
:).. so.....If you have a question--ask it and we will fight over who is going to help you!!!!!
The person with a + is not an op, he/she is known to the ops present and can be trusted to give reliable help and advice.

What are Bots?
A bot is short for roBOT. Not a real person, but a program designed to simulate one. Some bots are good and perform duties like file transfers and help. Some bots are bad, and are used to mass-invite, mass-message and to flood people off (disconnect) from IRC. X, W and K9 are channel service bots, found on all registered channels.
A bot (robot) is a program or "script" that contains information to keep a channel in operation and dispense information to users of the channel.

Lag/Ping/Pong
LAG EXPLANATION: lag is the time between when you type the message and other users seeing it. Lag is caused because servers are either too full, not synched, or a netsplit is ready to occur.
Ping: By "Pinging" another user on a channel, you are shown how much time it takes for your comments to reach that person. The Ping signal travels to the person you performed the ping on, and reports back to you how long it took to reach them.
Pingpong: PING? PONG! is the server that you are connected to checking up on you. It does this to make sure that you are still connected and active. Ping! is your server saying "are you here?" Pong! is your chat software saying "Here I am!"
Ping?: PING is a way of measuring the amount of time it takes .your. IRC CLIENT to communicate with .other users. IRC CLIENT (the Client is the program you are using to chat on the IRC), the amount of time this communication takes is called LAG. ... .think of .PING. as the .SONAR. of the Undernet
NetSplit: A NETSPLIT occurs when a server gets overloaded and disconnects from the network. Then, all users on that disconnected server will also be disconnected. If you are disconnected, just reconnect (to a different server)
